VÄ–JAS ALIUKAS - KNOT

Knot – an installation of object and light. The shape of a mirrored, inflatable object is created using the principles of topology and knot theory. The object has no beginning and no end. Its structure is based on a perfect, closed form – a circle that topologically deformed in three-dimensional space becomes a knot. At the same time, the space where the knot is created, reflected on the mirror surface, flattens into two-dimensional parts of the scattered image – spots of shadow and light. The day-to-day relationship between the viewer and objects and the space around them becomes more intriguing. The question is, is the object we see, is the way we think it is, are we really objectively aware of reality?
