Båll & Brand feat. Robotic Folk (DK, LT) – THE ICE IS MELTING AT THE PØULES – LEGACY OF MELT
“The Ice is Melting at the Pøules – Legacy of Melt” is a continuously evolving artwork by Martin Ersted and the collective Båll & Brand, with sound design by Robotic Folk, that highlights the accelerating global climate crisis. Premiering at the Vilnius Light Festival, this installation features three simultaneous analog projections, which showcase materials from Antarctica, Iceland’s Vatnajökull glacier, and Austria’s Dachstein glacier. Invoking meltwater, crude oil, volcanic sand, and organic elements, the artwork creates dynamic visuals through illuminated glass discs, thus emphasizing the tangible reality of ice loss—19 million liters of melt water every second. Accompanied by field recordings of melting glaciers and poetic verses, the soundscape designed by Robotic Folk deepens the emotional impact and one’s cultural connection to these vanishing landscapes. Each such iteration poetically documents fragments of the disappearing ecosystems, hereby becoming a relic for the future of a world that may soon be lost, and at the same time urging for reflection and action.
