Tom Wilkson gets his inspiration from astronomy and physics. His kinetic sculpture reflects the constant movement, cyclical patterns, and kinetic energy scattered across our environment. He believes that the sphere is the purest form of physical being, which all matter “aims” to become. In 1988, T. Wilkson became fascinated by the illusion that the world is made up entirely of solid bodies connected by energy fields that ensure the stability of physical reality. He believed that their interactions were possible yet invisible to the human eye. Light Sphere installation was created for the Winter Lights 2016 festival in the London Docklands. Since then, the piece has been significantly improved. It can rotate much faster and creates an even more realistic illusion.
