The installation “Menschen” is made up of 960 pocket flashlights; it was first presented in 2019 in Leipzig to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Peaceful Revolution and to pay tribute to the demonstrators of 1989. Each torch is a symbol of a person from the crowd of demonstrators. It is a memorial installation honoring Europe’s cultural diversity, recalling an object that was once present in every home, helping people find their way, calming them down, mobilizing them, and sometimes monitoring or controlling them. By day, the installation is a monumental graphic work, reminiscent of a room you can walk into. By night, it draws you in and invites you to take a journey through a circular screen made of pocket flashlights and listen to the amazing sounds.
