Duke Gediminas is the city’s founder. Vilnius’s birthdays are symbolically counted from Gediminas’s letter, which dates back to the 25th of January, 1323. For some, he is a duke from a bygone age, while for others, he represents a Jedi. Either way, Vilnius’ birthday is only possible by honoring Duke Gediminas. As with every Vilnius Light Festival, the sword of Gediminas shines again.
