Robyn Moody – Wave Interference
Wave Interference is a light installation based on the principles of the electromagnetic spectrum. A sliver within this spectrum is visible light, which we can see with our own indicator – eyes. Outside of this range other cleverly designed detectors are needed. For a long time the only detector that appeared in everyday life was the Radio, and by tuning the frequency to a particular wavelength, we became aware of that wave’s existence. The waves from every radio station, mobile phone call, wifi signal (and countless others) are around us whether we are detecting them or not. As we can detect these waves as light through our eyes, by the help of radio we can detect (hear) these waves as sound. This is a fact that filmmakers have exploited for years; a soundtrack can make an image cheerful, or nostalgic, or (in a minor key) induce feelings of melancholy or dread. Any image can be made to elicit any emotional response based on the soundtrack that accompanies it.
Wave Interference is exactly that – a combination of a beautiful and elegant vision of a wave of light with a gradually changing melancholic soundtrack.
