Atelier Sisu - Evanescent
‘Evanescent’, is an adjective, meaning the quality of being fleeting or vanishing quickly; impermanence. Evanescent is an immersive, light and sound temporary pavilion-esque environment. The use of dichroic film gives a unique aesthetic effect by splitting a beam of light into two beams with differing wavelengths, mimicking those of the bubble. The theme chosen for the form of the sculpture was intended to be a universal and self-explanatory concept and by choosing to emulate the “magic” of bubbles, we appeal to their universal playfulness and joy we felt as kids. The material breaks the sunlight up into a rainbow of different colours, the beams of reflected colour enlightens the surroundings and enhances the space but also making every viewing of the piece a unique experience. Conceptually, the work encourages the audience to consider the world around them as a space of transience and fragility, like that of a bubble.
