Roma Salė (LT) – The White Hole

The artwork explores the popular science fiction idea of time travel. In this environment, paradoxes and logical gaps, deviations of history are encountered. Such gaps reveal the fragile and constantly changing nature of history itself. Physicist David Deutsch offers an intriguing idea – the method of alternative histories, based on the interpretation of multiple worlds. According to the scientist’s theory, our Universe does not have a single, unique history – all possible versions of it exist simultaneously.

If we ever had the opportunity to move through space and time, it is likely that we would not return to our past to change it, but would find ourselves in an alternative reality – one in which the same laws of physics are possible, however events unfolded differently. These alternative realities may be close to our world, but they contain both subtle and fundamental differences. So, if such a speculative theory were to become a reality, what new contexts would it open up? After all, there would be the risk not only of traveling through time and space, but also of traveling through different histories – the so-called “migration of histories, or universes”, when one can choose which of all possible histories they want to live in.

The light installation and projections play the role of an imaginary portal – they not only allow the viewer to rethink the possibilities of alternative histories, but also remind one of the responsibility for the already existing history that everyone has. The exhibition space here becomes another form of storytelling, opening up interactive, engaging experiences for the viewer.
