AGNĖ KIŠONAITĖ (LT) – DREAMING SUN

When the sun is missing during the cold winter, I start seeing it everywhere – in an orange fruit, the flame of the fireplace, or even tennis balls. This feeling inspired the bright and cheerful art installation “Dreaming Sun”. Its starting point was the reflection of sustainability and Lithuanian identity. The installation made of discarded tennis balls, supplemented with glowing reflectors–crystal dust–is 5 meters high, 7 meters wide, and 2.5 meters deep. When illuminated by the spotlight, the rays flicker at different angles and reflect ‘sun rays’, thus providing the installation with vitality and radiance. The work combines a modernized Art Deco style, the influence of the oeuvre of a famous Lithuanian painter Kazys Šimonis, and its characteristic national motifs, thus strengthening the identity of Lithuanian art. “Dreaming Sun” is also a waste art installation, revealing how no longer useful things can turn into impressive art objects and thus extend their existence.
